Working with the Chief Financial Officer and main Board, led a Procurement transformation project (Project Scorpio) which involved preparing an in-depth review of current spend resulting in a 6 month souring strategy signed off at Board level. Contracts were secured across multiple major spend categories to ensure price stability in preparation for a potential sale of the business. This resulted in over £5m of full year cash releasing savings being delivered. A full end to end review of back office processes, procedures, savings tracking & contract compliance was conducted. This led to the recruitment of an interim & permanent team.
Worked with the Government Health Procurement Tsar, Lord Patrick Carter, and contributed to his report on Operational Productivity & Performance in English NHS Acute Hospitals. Led a project looking to introduce a core list of products into the NHS as part of the overall £2bn savings target. This involved managing the first all NHS e-auctions, with commitment, for 3 clinical categories that led to significant price change in the market. Working with the Royal College of Nursing then introduced and recruited the NHS Clinical Evaluation Team which has led to a more professional clinical approach to product choice.
Working with the Chief Financial Officer, a short and medium term Procurement strategy was developed for the Trust across the £80m of addressable spend which was signed off at Board level. This involved a major restructure and upskilling of the existing team (18 people) as well as adding additional resource and increasing the profile of Procurement with Senior members of the Trust.
Worked with a number of leading private equity houses and their portfolio companies, including healthcare, manufacturing & FMCG, to lead a review of their current spend and provide the strategy of delivering best in class procurement to ensure costs were driven down.
Worked with the Acquisitions Team to focus on leveraging savings opportunities following Tesco’s acquisitions of Giraffe Restaurants, Harris + Hoole Coffee Shops & Euphorium Bakeries. Prepared a detailed report setting out where the opportunities were, together with the best way of achieving these which was signed off at Board level.
Working with the Chief Financial Officer, a procurement strategy was developed across their £120m of addressable spend, this was signed off at Board level. This included a quick win sourcing strategy targeting savings from the top 20 suppliers which delivered savings in excess of 8%. As part of the strategy an interim restructure of the existing team (30 people) was completed leading to increased visibility of Procurement with the Trust as well a focussed on savings delivery.
